Today is the day. The day republicans need to change the direction of the party. As we can see we are so far off track that the country went for a change message that will not work. But seems the majority of the United States believed the message because they had no alternative.
See it looks like our party has become so content with the status quo even to the point of taking a democratic montra of high spending in government when the republican belief is for small government and low spending. Our country is still a center-right country, problem was this time the center-right saw nothing on the right that would help. I blame the party for this. We say how arrogant Obama was during the campaign. Look how arrogant the republicans have been in government for the past eight years. We as a party have no one to blame but ourselves.
If you look at Sarah Palin, she and others like her are the future of our party. Many critics on both sides have slammed her. But she is not what the pundits say she is. Look at her record, she is a true reformer and not afraid to do what needs to be done. The media and the McCain campaign did her a great injustice. John McCain I believe didn't, but rather the campaign managers and handlers themselves. I believe they were afraid of her. She was so scripted that she could not portray herself as she is in Alaska. She instead was portrayed as stupid. When in fact she is very intelligent, focused and courageous when it comes for fighting for change.
When the pundits say she excited the base they were right. Look at her rallies and you will see the base of the republican party. She drew more people to her rallies than McCain. Thats the reason they were campaigning together so much. She was hitting attendance numbers close to Obama 's attendance numbers. But more importantly it was who was there . Your average middle Americans, that who was there. McCain drew some of these but he mostly drew older Americans, veterans, and moderately wealthy. See Palin excited the base because she is one of us. Has worked hard all her life, as a business owner, mother and wife. She was what many middle American women want to be. She is conservative, raising her family with good moral beliefs and successful. Yes, her teenage daughter is pregnant, but that can happen and has happened to many families raised with good values. It is just a child who made a mistake. But the key there is what Palin's daughter is doing. She is keeping the baby and the father is taking responsibility for his actions. This is our base the middle Americans who work everyday, have a conservative moral compass, that believes in hard work and success is possible if you only work for it.
This is not a new conservative base, but rather the same one that has always been there. The problem the republican party has lost touch with it. Republicans in leadership need to get back in touch with this base and focus on its needs. Not be out for themselves or see themselves as high and mighty. As you can see all around the mighty have fallen.
Republican leaders can get back in touch by lowering themselves to the grass roots level. Listening to the needs of the base. Compromising when needed, fighting when needed and doing what is best for the base while keeping the core beliefs of the party. It can be done, look at Reagan he did it. We need to get back to there and add to that . Staying on that course he set for us, which is why he is still the most popular president in the modern era. Stop the infighting and partisanship . Do what is right for the country and us not just for the party. That is were the republican party has gone wrong. It's out of touch.
